Andrew McNair

Event Manager

Andrew McNair works directly with clients to carefully coordinate every detail of their event, from room layout and event schedule to electrical needs and telecommunications.

He assists clients with contacting outside contractors/vendors and provides arrival, breakdown and departure information. McNair acts as a liaison between the client and the center’s staff before and during events to ensure that all needs are communicated effectively and remains a point of contact following events to discuss any post-event matters.

McNair’s introduction to special events came about through his work as a bartender at multiple venues around town, including the Tennessee Theatre, Bijou Theater, Knoxville Convention Center and several Knoxville based catering companies. Recognizing his work ethic and ability to develop rapport with customers, the Convention Center named McNair assistant food and beverage manager in the fall of 2015. About a year later, he was named event manager.

A Knoxville native, McNair graduated from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2010 with a bachelor of science degree in Geology. He is a fall 2016 graduate of Introduction Knoxville, a member of Volunteer East Tennessee, and a former member of the Knoxville Chapter of Red Cross.

What is your favorite activity to do in Knoxville?

Even though I’ve lived here my entire life, this is a surprisingly difficult question to answer. There are so many things to do and new activities coming around all the time, I feel it’s impossible to narrow it down to just one. That being said, football Saturdays are hard to beat!

What is your favorite location in Knoxville?

It would have to be downtown. As a native Knoxvillian, our downtown area hasn’t always been something we could be proud of. However, over the past 10 years the area has grown and become a true community. Within a 10 minute walk of the Knoxville Convention Center there are dozens of restaurants, shops, boutiques, bars, a movie theater, an underground bowling alley, music venues, multiple parks, museums and historic landmarks. How can you beat that?

What do you think sets Knoxville apart as a great city to visit?

You’ll hear it said everywhere around town that Knoxville is a unique place, with big city amenities but a small town vibe. You can enjoy high end shopping and fine dining only to drive five minutes down the road and be in our Urban Wilderness hiking along peaceful trails with no trace of the busy city you just left behind. There is truly something for everyone here.

What is your favorite part about working at the Knoxville Convention Center?

I love being able to work downtown and be truly involved in what is going on around Knoxville.
