Every holiday season, we host a gathering to thank our clients, friends and staff for supporting the Convention Center throughout the year. And it gives our staff members a chance to show off their skills and remind our clients of the high standard we keep for all of their events.

Convention Center clients, friends, elected officials and community leaders  joined us for “Cocktails and Unconventional Carols” with entertainment by the South’s most dynamic dueling piano duo, led by Mike Renna. Renna and his partner, Mark Kovaly, traveled from Atlanta for the event, and they took requests from the audience that ranged from Katy Perry pop hits and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” to traditional piano standards such as Billy Joel’s “Piano Man.” They performed every single request perfectly without rehearsal or sheet music.

If you were in downtown Knoxville during our party, you might have noticed something different about the Convention Center. Our in-house audiovisual service provider, M&M Productions, dramatically lit our Clinch Concourse Atrium with a holiday glow. As the sun went down, the vaulted glass ceiling of our atrium glowed a ruby red, and the lighting set the mood for a festive holiday evening.

Building-300x137The chic furniture and sophisticated red-and-black linens furnished by our house preferred decorator ACES (All Conference and Exposition Services) paired well with the trees and holiday decorations left by the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital Fantasy of Trees and created a luxurious lounge-like atmosphere.

Our catering team, SAVOR, prepared a holiday feast for our guests. From brisket-stuffed mushrooms to risotto action stations, our guests sampled fine dining cuisine from our expert culinary staff led by Convention Center executive chef Chris Moore. Our festive Mistletoe Martini specialty cocktail charmed our guests with warm cinnamon and green apple flavors and a rim of sugar. The martinis were a crowd favorite!

We have great event staff members, and every year I am amazed that they find a way to raise the bar with their creativity and professionalism. I’d also like to extend a special thanks to our event sponsors B&T Distributing, US Foodservice, All Convention Exposition Services, M&M Productions, Sysco, Valley Produce, A&B Distributing and Gordon Foods for helping us host a great event.

The Convention Center staff and I had a wonderful time celebrating another year with our clients and friends. I’m already looking forward to the great events and new client relationships we will build in 2014.

Happy Holidays from the Knoxville Convention Center!
