BMaze 3Every space at our Convention Center is a blank canvas for our clients. Our expert staff can envision a plan to turn an empty ballroom or exhibit hall into the perfect venue for any event. We did it this week when we converted our exhibit hall into an arena experience.
This weekend, we are hosting the BMaze Celebrity Basketball Game for the first time at our center. The event is a charity fundraiser basketball game presented by former Vols basketball star Bobby Maze in memory of his cousin.

This year’s game pits the Tennessee “All-Stars” vs. the “Pros.” The “All-Stars” team includes past UT greats, such as Chris Lofton, Tobias Harris, Eric Berry, Scotty Hopson, Meighan Simmons, Brittany Jackson, Da’Rick Rogers, Albert Haynesworth and Donte Stallworth.

IMG_20140627_141726_506The inaugural event was held last year at the Hardin Valley Academy’s gymnasium and had a sellout crowd in excess of 2,500 fans. When planning for this year, organizers knew they needed a bigger space, so they could pack even more supporters in the house. That’s why they came to the Convention Center.

One of our excellent event managers, Kate Jackson, met with the event planner, James Clawson of Allegiant Athletics Agency (A3), to form a game plan for the event. A3 arranged for the basketball floor to be donated by Praters, an athletic flooring company in Chattanooga. Kate worked with the company on the event diagram to make sure the basketball court, riser for fans and VIP floor seating to accommodate 2,700 guests would fit in the space. This year’s event also includes activities for kids, including a bounce house and blow-up basketball inflatable.

BMaze 2While this is our first basketball event at the Knoxville Convention Center, we have hosted numerous sporting events, including volleyball, fencing, gymnastics, bowling, martial arts and horseshoe throwing, among others. For the Phoenix Rising Volleyball Club Tournament last March, we provided indoor space for 14 full-sized volleyball courts in our exhibit hall. Our staff makes the setup process seem simple, from logistical planning to load-in and tear-down.

Our guests won’t see the work that occurs behind-the-scenes by our staff. A gymnasium seemed to spring like magic within our facility. The BMaze Celebrity Basketball Game will be held this Saturday, June 29, at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are available for $25 at www.bmazegame.eventbrite.com. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Pat Summitt Foundation.

Thanks to our talented event staff, the Knoxville Convention Center is ready for tip-off.
