Full house at the Knoxville Convention Center.

The Knoxville Convention Center is the place to be this week with thousands of guests coming to two public shows. With the Food City Food Show and Fanboy Expo, we expect approximately 17,000 people to come through our doors this weekend!

The Food City Food Show will be in our facility on Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 150 food vendors offer recipes, product sampling, discounts and coupons. Plus, celebrity chefs are scheduled throughout the day.

International award-winning chef Claire Menck and “Top Chef” contestant Richard Sweeney are the headlining chefs on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Food City Executive Chef JJ Jones also will give a demonstration to kick off the event. Chef Walter Lambert of WVLT and Knoxville News Sentinel food writer Mary Constantine, as well as Covenant Health fitness expert Missy Kane, also will host demonstrations throughout the weekend. Tickets are available for $10 at the event, and admission for children under age 6 is free.

On the topic of celebrity guests, the Fanboy Expo brings dozens of celebrities from pop culture and cult classic to regional fans. The expo also will feature vendors selling comic books, toys and other fandom paraphernalia. Visitors to the Convention Center will be able to meet icons such as Joey Fatone from *NSYNC, the original “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the voice and model for Disney’s “Pocahontas.” For a full list of guests, visit the Expo website.

With panels and events throughout the weekend, including a live production of “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” on Saturday night, we are ready for a packed house! Remember: We have plenty of parking surrounding our facility in downtown Knoxville.
