“It’s football time in Tennessee!” In just a few short months, we will all be hearing those five glorious words echo through Neyland Stadium with a new head coach at the helm of the Volunteers, Butch Jones. All of us here, along with many Knoxville community leaders and adoring fans, were thrilled to greet him at a welcome reception at the Knoxville Convention Center last week.

For the past few coaches, including Lady Vols Head Coach Holly Warlick and Men’s Basketball Coach Cuonzo Martin, we have hosted the first official reception to welcome these coaches to Knoxville. With the event sponsors Pilot Flying J, the News Sentinel, UT Medical Center and First Tennessee Bank, the Knoxville Convention Center is essentially the welcoming committee, and we know how to put our best food forward to show some southern hospitality!

We make it easy and fun for both event planners and for guests, because the KCC is truly a one-stop-shop for hosting any event. Our wonderful A/V company, M&M Productions, did all the lighting, stage setup and sound. They have knocked it out of the park at these receptions since coming on board! For Butch Jones, the room was lit with a warm orange glow. Matching the Moxley Carmichael invitation theme, tweets from Jones’ Twitter feed were projected onto the wall for everyone to see, highlighting his excellent use of Twitter and showing his enthusiasm for his new “dream job.”

ACES, the décor rental and setup company, did a fantastic job dressing up our ballroom space with beautiful orange and white linens. And, of course, our fabulous in-house caterers, SAVOR, served delicious food, including an action station “Give Him Six” Low Country Shrimp & Grits in martini glasses and specialty Big Orange-themed desserts such as orange cupcakes and truffle bites.

Even though Tennessee football won’t kick off until late August, the KCC’s event season is already well under way, and we’re happy to welcome Butch Jones to the UT family. The Knoxville Convention Center and our staff are ready to cheer him and the Vols on to victory.

Welcome to Knoxville, Coach Jones! Go Vols!
