P-2302-000-130At the Knoxville Convention Center, we specialize in fulfilling the needs of every type of meeting, convention or event that comes to our facility. Some of our most interesting challenges come when we welcome large-scale sporting events and competitions to our complex.

The Knoxville Convention Center has a great reputation for accommodating large-scale sporting events. It’s one of the things we do best. In fact, the first event held at the Knoxville Convention Center when we opened our doors in 2002 was the 100th annual American Bowling Congress, an eight-month competition that brought 61,000 bowlers to Knoxville. We set up 48 bowling lanes in our largest exhibition hall.

But bowling isn’t the only type of sport we host; our facility has housed everything from cheerleading to horseshoe throwing. In August, our facility was featured for its sporting events and sustainable practices in “SportsEvents” magazine, and our sales teams has already locked in several sporting events for 2014.

In February, thousands of Junior Olympics AAU volleyball players are headed to our complex for the Phoenix Rising Volleyball Club Tournament. For the event, we will provide indoor space for an estimated 14 full-sized volleyball courts, and that number could expand to as many as 20 courts. Our staff makes the setup process seem easy from load-in to tear-down. The competition will actually return for a second time in March for the Southeast Pre-qualifier.

Rocky-Top-CupIn the first month of 2014, we will also welcome the Ozone Invitational gymnastics competition, previously known as Flip Fest, back to the center. With more than 3,000 Junior Olympic-level gymnasts attending the competition, the meet is one of the largest in the industry. The Ozone Invitational has been coming to the Convention Center for more than a decade. Our close relationships with meeting planners and Knoxville’s many activities and attractions keep these events coming back year after year.

Along with many meetings and conventions, the Convention Center has hosted several high-attendance, diverse sporting events over the years, including the Isshin-Ryu Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony and Tournament, an international martial arts competition; the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championship; the Tennessee Salsa Congress, the largest Latin dance event in East Tennessee; and the NHPAA Annual National Convention and World Championship, which brought 1,500 professional horseshoe champions to Knoxville.

Like with all events, our Convention Center team are pros at making sporting events the best they can be. Whatever the event requires, I promise we’ll be good sports and make sure everything runs smoothly so everyone has a great time in Knoxville.
